Teenage Awareness on Sex

It is critical for loving and responsible parents to address the issue of their teenager's awareness and knowledge of sex.

It is safe to say that most teenagers may be reluctant to talk about something as personal as the subject of sex with a parent, especially if they are not accustomed to sharing their feelings on intimate topics. The parent may even feel embarrassed to bring up the subject. But before beginning such a discussion, it would be wise for the parent to decide what they are comfortable sharing about their personal experiences and beliefs on teen sexuality.

A simply way to start the conversation is to ask the teen what type of questions do they have or what do they want to know more about regarding sex - this will generally grab their attention. The objective is to get the teen talking or at least willing to talk. If the teen claims they know everything they need to know. The next step for a parent is to ask a question like, "Are you aware that sex is not the same thing as love?" and follow up with , "Sex is a physical act while love is emotional."

It is important for the parent to listen and pay attention to what the teen has to say, as well as the words he/she doesn't say. Paying attention to their body language is also important and whether they are at ease or trying to hide their discomfort. If they're uncomfortable, it would be best for the parent to let them know that they've noticed and ask if they want to talk about what may be bothering them. They parent should also reassure them that they are not there to judge him or her.

It is also important that the parent let the teen know that the reason they are trying to have a discussion on the subject is because they love them no matter what they may have done or are thinking of doing, and they should feel comfortable talking with them. If the teen chooses to be silent, allow him/her to be silent. Sometimes silence is a way for people to process information - teens are no different, and they need time and space to process. Parents just need to assure them that they will be available whenever they want to talk.

It is not a good idea for teens to rely on answers on the subject of sex, from their friends, the streets, or the media. Parents should build trust with their teenager, so If he/she has unanswered questions, they will feel comfortable in going to their parents for accurate information.

Parents should let their teenager know that protection is not a 100% guarantee against pregnancy, but still offer advice on obtaining protection.

More importantly, parents should let their teenager know that, according to statics and other documentation, "STDs and unwanted pregnancies are not the only thing to worry about from sex. There are other conditions and diseases that get transmitted from sexual contact, such as crabs. One increasingly common disease to worry about is molluscum contagiosum. It is a virus that infects the skin and causes large lesions that can last for two years or more. If someone has been diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum on/in their genitals or pubic area, they should know that there are different treatment options available.

The first step in protection is education. Condoms (outer surface barrier methods) are the only effective contraception in STD prevention. Both the male and female condoms are effective but do not offer 100% protection from transmission. In fact, only abstinence can provide protection from STDs, and many STDs can be passed in non-sexual ways, either with body-to-body contact or surface-to-body contact."

Having an educational discussion on the subject of sex, does not advocate teen sex. However, statistics show that teens as young as 13 are engaging in sexual activity. It is in both the teen's and parent's best interest to have the talk. When hormones and peer pressure kick in, a wise and educated youngster, who has previously given thought to and made decisions about his actions, has a better chance of living the life he wants than one who has not prepared himself for the inevitable emotions and situations that will come up in life.

Today's Teens Face Countless Problems

Being a teenager has never been one of the easiest tasks, but today's teens are facing countless problems and challenges.

A number of adults think that being a teen today is the same as it was when they were an adolescent, nothing could be further from the truth. Although yesteryear-parents may have been strict and life seem hard. On the grand scheme of things, it does not measure up to the challenges and life threatening decisions today's teens face just about everyday.

In the normal course of a teen's day, he or she may encounter any number of these challenges:

Depression With all that they see and do, teens face depression today at an alarming rate as compared to just a decade ago. Depression is not something that just goes away, but can cause them harm and threaten their lives.

Driving Teens drive drunk. Teens drive under the influence of drugs. Teens get in cars that others are driving under the influence. Although a number of teens may be responsible drivers, they share the road with those that are not.

Drugs Kids today are not just smoking basic marijuana - it is laced with other hallucinate drugs. They are also into meth, crack and other strong and deadly drugs. In addition to the illegal list of drugs, teens are reaching into the medicine cabinets and abusing prescription medications such as, Vicodin, Valium, Xanax, Ritalin, Adderall, Oxycontin, and whatever other prescription medications they can find.

Sex Not only are they exposed to it on the television and the movies, but they are encouraged by others. They may be engaging in sexual acts that parents have never heard of - At school, after school, on the car ride home - there are many opportunities for them to do so, and more than likely they are not Practicing Safe Sex.

The Choking Game is a senseless activity causing death and suffering for thousands of families worldwide. It often begins with teens choking each other or themselves until they pass out, as a way to get high without the risk of getting caught with drugs or alcohol. It ends with thousands of kids dying or suffering permanent brain damage each year.

Violence Today's teen problems often revolve around violence. They see friends with guns at school or after school. They witness huge fights. They hear threats. They see anger and deal with it daily.

In additional to the issues listed above teens also have to deal with:

· teen pregnancy

· eating disorders

· obesity

· cyberbullying

Helping today's teenager

Lower level teen problems can be just as deadly. They face lying, cheating, emotional trauma, learning disabilities and divorce. All of these things a child will face daily in some cases. In those cases, it is no wonder that they have low self esteem, high drop out rates and some students will break under the pressure. Teen problems should be noticed and addressed by their parents first, however this is not always the case - and when this occurs, the teen's well being will fall to the wayside.

Whether or not you think today's teens have more problems, bigger problems or just different problems, it is important to get that teen help for those problems before they become overwhelming.

Some Ways to Save Money and Be Able to Buy a Little Something

If you're like the average consumer, you're not spending sleepless nights trying to figure out ways to save money so you'll be able to buy a little something. No, you want it when you see it, not after you have saved to afford it. Because as we all know...

It's so much easier to spend money than to save it, and it's a helluva lot more fun too. But with the current economic crunch, a lot of people - at least those with a little less change then others, are trying not to spend so much while in wait of the seriously delayed economic turn-around.

It's true retailers aren't seeing as many people hanging out in the malls as in the lean days of excessive-expenditures, when even middle-classers (now the new poor) were splurging on the latest over-priced fashion item. However, if you're fortunate enough to still be able to spend a dollar without taking out a pay-day loan. Congrats! For all others wanting to know what they can do...

Here's a short list of ways to save money and still be able to splurge on that little sumtin sumting or something (whatever the case might be) every now and then.

• Lower your food bill. First, try eating at home more often instead of going out. Yeah, yeah, some people don’t want to cook, don't know how to cook (that clearly escapes me) or are too lazy to cook. But if you don’t cook, how do you expect to eat? You can save more money buying groceries than eating in a restaurant. Maybe not a whole heck of a lot, considering the costs of groceries these days, sure we've had some weather issues that may have had an effect on the crops, but ... "Ooops, I digressed."

You can cut cost by doing it yourself, but don’t deprive yourself from having some fun. You can still go out to a restaurant but instead of ordering as much, try to get something else off the menu that isn't as expensive - and try, I said try, to limited yourself to one cocktail, two at the most.

• Save on utilities, by simply turning off the TV when no one is watching, you can save. If you want to lessen your electric bill, do the laundry and ironing once a week. This will mean that the laundry may pile up slightly but hey, you wanted to buy new clothes anyway!

• Lessen your trips, gas prices are ridiculously out of control, and consume a lot of your money. The best way to ease this burden, is to be the owner of Exxon, and if that were the case, you wouldn't be reading this post - now would you? Barring being independently wealthy with no concept of the costs of living; another way pass this hurdle is to schedule your trips to coincide with those that are necessary, or consider car pooling.

• Recycle, here's a novel and obvious way to save money for that dress or whatever the must-have item of the moment may be, just don't buy it. Especially, if it's for a one night event, shoot if possible, borrow it from one of your friends. If that doesn't sit well with you, wearing someone else's' clothing is not everyone's forte, grab something out of your own closet that you can recycle with the right accessories to turn the outfit into a glorious eye-popper. Or consider checking out the thrift stores for unworn pieces.

No one wants to be so concerned about pinching pennies that even Abe Lincoln himself starts to scream, but if you consider some of the above ways to save and be able to buy a little something, you just may very well be able to buy even more than you think.

LOVE THAT SNOW - Diary of a Mad Shoveler

December 8: 6:00 P.M. It started to snow The first snowfall of the season. The wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge snowflakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses print. So romantic, we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!

December 9: We awoke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I have ever had! Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!

December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry. We will definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that is possible. Bob is such a nice man. I'm glad he's our neighbor.

December 14: Snow, lovely snow! Eight degrees last night. The temperature dropped to minus twenty. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back in the afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize that I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so much.

December 15: 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and two extra snow shovels. Stocked the freezer too. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think she is silly. After all, we aren't in Alaska.

December 16: Ice storm this morning. Fell on my rear on the ice in the driveway while I was trying to put down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour. I think she's very cruel.

December 17: Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. I guess I should have bought a wood stove, but I won't admit that to her. God, I hate it when she is right. Can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.

December 20: Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of the damn stuff last night. More shoveling. took all day. Damn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they are lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I will have to shovel or the city will bill me. I think he's lying.

December 22: Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white stuff fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt until August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed to go out to shovel and then I had to pee. By the time I got undressed, peed and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. I tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter, but he says he's too busy. I think he's lying.

December 23: Only 2" of snow today. And, it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she.....nuts??? Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago. She said she did, but I think she's lying.

December 24: 6". Snow packed so hard by the snowplow, I broke the shovel. I though I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the SOB who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by his family jewels. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and than he comes down the street at a
100 miles and hour and throws snow all over where I have just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas Carols with her and open our presents, but I was busy watching for the darn snowplow.

December 25: Merry Christmas! 20 more inches of the darned slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. God, I hate the snow. Then, the snowplow driver came by and asked for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have bad attitude. I think she's an idiot. If I have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to kill her.

December 26: Still snowed in. Why the heck did I ever move here? It was all her idea. She's really getting on my nerves.

December 27: Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze.

December 28: Warmed up to above-50. Still snowed in. The wife is driving me crazy!!!!!

December 29: 10 more inches of snow. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it will collapse. That's the silliest thing I have ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?????

December 30: Roof caved in. The snowplow driver is suing me for a million dollars for the bump on his head. The wife went home to her mother. 9" predicted.

December 31: Set fire to what was left of the house. No more shoveling.

Social Networking And Teens - Proceed With Caution

Social networking and teens seem to go hand and hand these days - some seem to think it is a part of growing up and gives them a sense of belonging to the popular groups, and others look at it as a means to escape the reality of not being socially accepted. While it is possible to engage in some harmless fun on some of the websites, there are also risks involved, which is why teens should proceed with caution.

Since teens don't consider themselves kids anymore, no matter how much the parents long for them to remain so, they pretty much know what type of information about themselves they should or should not make public - however, parents should from time to time reinforce what is and is not acceptable to show and tell on the internet highway of life. It is okay to talk about hobbies, sports, a favorite song or band, but it is never okay for a teen to post their phone number or address - doing so will only encourage strangers to contact them or show up at their home uninvited.

A few good practices to keep in mind when teens are setting up or using social network websites:

When they open an account, they should use a screen name and not their real name.

The password should never be shared with anyone, not even their BF.

Only add friends that they know in real life like their classmates, neighbors and family members.

It is best to use the privacy settings that are available, so that no one outside their friends will be able to read their posts - doing so will prevent people that are not on the friend's list from viewing their post or photos.

Before posting something, make sure that it is tasteful and not sexually provocative. You can make edits using some programs to remove any personal identifying information.

They should not post any detailed information about any plans, like where they will be on the weekend to avoid meeting someone who could be a potential threat. Indicating they are going to a movie is fine, just avoid indicating the location of the theater.

Should they encounter any harassment or negative comments on their profile, it should be reported to the administrator, and brought to their parent's attention.

Furthermore, teens should immediately end any chat where the person asks too many personal questions including, their attitude toward sex or about their physical features - normally this is a sign that the other person is trying to manipulate them into having sex.

It is important that teens just be themselves when logged on to social network sites - they should not allow themselves to be bullied or pressured into doing something they don't want to do or that may cause harm to themselves or others.

There is nothing wrong with having some harmless fun or sharing activities with your peers. Unfortunately, far too many teenagers are too blasé' (laid back) when it comes to the legal pitfalls of using social media, especially when it comes to posting explicit photos online. Sadly, only a small percentage would even bother to ask their parent(s) or an adult about the dangers of being online.

More importantly, It is very risky for a teen to attempt to meet with someone they've only known online. Should he or she find them self compelled to do so, it is advisable to meet in a public place and take a parent along for the first meeting to ensure there won't be any problems.

Again, Social Networking can be an enjoyable pass time for teens, but they should remember to proceed with caution, especially when sharing information with strangers.

Swiss Consider Legalizing Incest - A Horribly Insane Idea

Although The Swiss parliament has drafted a law that would allow parents to have sex with their children or siblings to have sex with each other, and despite what the lawyer for David Epstein the Columbia University professor accused of having an incestuous relationship with his adult daughter, thinks, that legalizing incest is not a bad idea. I trust that the United States will never fall pry to something as repulsive as this, but will instead continue to know that legalizing incest is a horribly insane idea.

This is freaking insane! In what world of morality is it ever okay to have sex with your sibling let alone your own children? I agree with the conservative lawmakers who've labeled it "completely repugnant."

As for the Columbia professor's lawyer thinking it not a bad idea, he's only saying that because, his client, David Epstein, a Columbia University professor is having an incestuous relationship with his own daughter. And for him to compare it to a homosexual relationship by saying: "It's OK for homosexuals to do whatever they want in their own home," as he tells ABC News. "How is this so different? We have to figure out why some behavior is tolerated and some is not." Is about as lii as the disgusting situation itself.

The protection for children will be lost forever, if crimes such as this continue to be legalized.

Fried Hotdogs Without Trying

I recently discovered how to make fried hotdogs for my Grandson’s lunch without trying. Don’t click away, you may find my method quite interesting, or at least worth making note of.

First, ingredient in this equation is an eleven-year-old Grandson who needs a quick lunch. It has to be quick and portable, because he’s engrossed in both a computer and a television program. Therefore, he can’t be expected to tear himself away for more than 5 – 10 minutes tops, portable because he’s not going to actually physically move to the dining table to eat said lunch.

Next, take a couple of hotdogs, three in this case. Throw them into the pot (hope you’re paying attention) with some water, turn burner on and go back to what you were doing. In my particular situation I was multi-tasking: I threw a load of towels in the washer and more importantly, I went back to the room where I was working on two articles as well as a review and had no less than six windows open on my trusty laptop. Did I mention, in addition to the six windows Facebook was also active, needed to import my blog’s rss feed, for one of the articles I was working on.

If you were paying attention to the aforementioned information, you would know, I failed to mention turning on the timer to ensure I didn’t get immersed in what I was doing and forget about the hotdogs. Well, I can assure you I did not bother to turn on the timer; I got immersed in the review I was writing, researched some information on the Internet, and periodically made notes on an article I was writing.

And that’s how I made fried hotdogs without trying. If you still don’t get it….

By the time I smelled the stench, it was too late and I realized the hotdogs may have been left on longer than should be. Again, if you were paying attention and clearly I was not, you would realize I only meant to boil the hotdogs, which is why I put them in a pot of water. Instead, I fried those hotdogs to a crispy black inedible mess. They became garbage disposal bait – the stainless steel pot that was now coated in black crud I left soaking till I’d be able to put the SOS pad to it and restore it back to its shine.

Where was the eleven-year-old Grandson, you ask? Right out there still engrossed in both his computer and television programs. The timer was the first thing I turned on before I even thought about turning on the burner for the replacement hotdogs I had to boil.

One discount store in particular where you will be able to find a huge variety of wonderful and affordable Christmas decorations, is Big Lots stores. Inside tip: Not only does Big Lots offer some of the best bargains during the holiday season – to help you maintain your budget, but after the Christmas season they offer some super mark-downs on their Christmas decorations - anywhere from seventy-five to ninety percent off.

For the largest selection of Christmas decorations, you will want to shop early, but for the best prices, you may want to wait until it gets closer to Christmas. In fact, let me repeat this tip; the best bargains are normally found right after Christmas and the discounts can range anywhere from seventy-five to ninety percent off. Although shopping right after Christmas won't help you this year, it may very well help you get a jump on gathering some super cutesy decorations that you can use to affordably deck the halls of your home, next year.

Weekend Wedding Activities – Woohoo!

It has become increasingly trendy to host a weekend gala event for couples-to-be, because a wedding is not just a celebration of their love; it is also a way to thank the special people in their life and have them participate.

As a number of families are geographically spread further apart, it is becoming more popular for couples to opt for weekend weddings. The festivities generally begin Friday evening, with the wedding being held on Saturday and a post-wedding breakfast or brunch concludes the activities on Sunday.

Rest assured planning activities for weekend-long celebrations does not have to be a nail-biting, hair-pulling difficult task, but planning the activities for the long weekend is essential. And it can actually be quite a bit of fun. First, consider everyone's needs. It's important that during the wedding weekend, planners keep in mind that the weekend itself might be expensive for some guests, particularly those who had to fly in for the occasion therefore; many of the activities should be free, or inexpensive. However, if planners choose more expensive activities to include the entire group, they should be paid for by either the bride and groom or their families and not the guests.

Of course, there are plenty of activities that don't have to be expensive, such as a scavenger hunt that incorporates the Bachelor and Bachelorette party activities. If you're lucky enough to be near a lake and the weather permits, consider planning the events for Saturday at the lake. Activities can include, swimming races, beach volleyball, canoe racers, and/or jet skiing.

An additional activity that's popular during weekend weddings is a competitive type sport activity, such as volleyball, flag football, baseball, softball or horseshoes. Again, add a unique twist. Offer prizes for performance (first touchdown gets a kiss from the bride or groom, first score the best man has to sing to, hug, or kiss maid of honor) or you can make-up ridiculous rules, like members of the bridal party have to wear veils while playing volleyball and/or members of the groom's party should have to wear tiaras.

You can even offer prizes for the team that wins the scavenger hunt or any of the other activities, such as gift certificates to Edible Arrangements, local sporting events, or wine baskets.

Although it might seem an obvious choice to divide the teams into groups who know or are related to the bride and teams who know or are related to the groom, think about how exciting it would be to mix it up a bit, by creating teams of friends versus family, youth versus aged, or men versus women (always a popular choice).

There are so many unique activities that the problem isn't what to do, but which of the number of activities to do. And with the large variety, there's bound to be one that fits into your budget and theme.

During my childhood I recall that my brother spent more time pretending to take a bath than just actually taking a bath. In the time it took him to fake taking a bath he could have just taken a bath.

Seriously, this fool had the nerve to run the water, put the soap and towel into the water, and splash his hand in the water while sitting on the side of the tub - to give the illusion that he was bathing. Damn! That's way too much effort spent not to do something. It would have been much easier to just get his happy behind in the tub and take a freaking bath.

You may wonder if he grew out of this lazy trifling habit. Well, it took a while and quite a few butt whippings, but he finally realized good hygiene was important - or maybe he grew tired of our mother sitting in the bathroom as he bathe.

There’s Not An App for That or Maybe Just Not One for You

There's no question Apple's App Store has a huge lead over its competitors- Apple continues to release new apps to make handheld gizmos more attractive and awesome – boasting more than 50,000 Apps. However, Google Android and Blackberry Apps are also named in this post for being among the privileged. Unlike the aforementioned, Apps are not designed for use on other cell phones and the owners of said devices are feed up. At least this Samsung owner is.

DriveSafe.ly^™ is a mobile application that reads text (SMS) messages and emails aloud in real time and automatically responds without drivers touching the mobile phone. DriveSafe.ly is claiming to be the solution to texting while driving. This is an app supporting safety and just the type of app that should be available to every cell phone capable of using apps – not just the precious iPhone, Android, & Blackberry.

I've been a loyal AAA member since the 80s, but can I get the free app they offer, no – because I don't have an iPhone, Android, or Blackberry.

Shoot! I pay a nice piece of change to AT&T each and every month for the privilege of using my cell phone which happens to have 3 main menu screens that contain apps. Including AT&T GPS and Navigator, and Social Net which provides access to FB, Twitter, MySpace in a format similar but not, to TweetDeck.

Even Directv has an app so that you can use their DVR scheduler to record programs on your DVR, but if you don't have an iPhone or what they call a Smart Phone (implying my phone is dumb?), you're S.O.L on this feature as well. Why can't you simply use your phone's web browser to get to the scheduler? Why must there be an app used, and since you have to use an app, why is there no app for other phones?

There's an app for just about everything:

Movies, music, and naturally there are some game applications that you can install on your iPhone, so you won't get bored while traveling. Another great iPhone application is called Showtime, this particular application is for movie lovers that want to research upcoming movies in the nearest theaters.

WeatherBug , is an app that will give you the current weather in the state you are currently in or even the whole country, it can also provide a map that shows the storm track. I have My-cast weather on my phone of course there's an extra monthly fee for its use. Whatever you want to spend money on, the iWant application will be able to find it for you – whether it is food, lodging, gas, banks, even coffee. My phone has "where" also available for an additional monthly fee.

If you travel a lot, then you will definitely love one of the iPhone applications that will be able to update you with traffic. With this, you will be able to avoid heavy traffic in cities all over the United States. Another great application for international travelers is the language translator. With this great application, you will find it easier to communicate with other people where English is not their primary language.

There's even a Mad Men cocktail culture app, so that you'll be able to mix drinks like the characters on the AMC series Mad Men – how clever is that.

These are just examples of the thousands of applications that you can download and use with your iPhone. Whatever you want, you can be sure that you will find the right applications that you need – But where are my special apps?

Why can't the rest of us, cell carrying gadget lovers be supplied with all the cool apps available for iPhone & Android? I know I know I can just get one of the Smartphones and become a member of the cool app club, but why should I and others like me have to buy yet another phone – extending our contracts, just so we can be a part of the elite app club?

Breaking news, as of 9.28.10 there is now a StumbleUpon app for, yes, the damn iPhone, iPad, and Android. Oh, did I forget to mention that the app is free.

Lastly, in the world of mobile phone technology and multimedia gadgetry, the iPhone (and it's Android competitors) is considered to be one of the most amazing devices ever made. But it does put me in mind of when windows replaced DOS – just point and click, because users were too lazy to write the commands. So what do cell phone apps say about its savvy gizmo users that must have them – well, how else are we going to lose the few active brain cells we have left? But, if you want a mobile device that will be able to provide you with all the applications you need to make your life a bit easier; a Smartphone may be the device for you. Apple iPhone Applications Will Simply Amaze You – I think my phone has amazing features too, but I want it to be even more amazing – I want it to be a smart phone. Apparently I have no choice but to upgrade to the (Smartphone) Samsung Captivate next week.

Buzz Words/Phases That Are Annoying - or Crap I Don't Care About

There are a number of things that I've pondered during my lifetime - as I'm sure you have as well, but I'm not really certain if I even give a damn about the answers - what about you? One of my main annoyances is, there are few too many buzz words or phrases that seem to catch on way too quickly, without explanation or necessity, at least from my point of view. I've listed just a few you may not be too fond of as well.

Phases and "Buzz" Words That Are Annoying To More People Than You Think

What the Sam-hill is up with this "Tea Party" crap? Is this "Tea Party" by invitation only, is the attire former or casual wear? Is it restricted to a certain group and are gloves and/or 'hoods' optional? Perhaps I should consult The Huffington Post or The Washington Post for clarification? Better yet, Fox News & Sarah Palin considering they seem to be the experts on this. Here are some Tea Party Pics you may find annoying as well.

"A community committed to standing together, shoulder to shoulder, to protect our country and the Constitution upon which we were founded!"

What a load of crap that is, it's just another organized group of haters wanting to get "their" way, by any means necessary.

"We must stay the course", why because you say so? And must we stay the course, even if everyone knows you're heading in the wrong direction?

Who besides me - and I know I can't be alone - especially with the number of lay-offs, can't stand the one that every HR Representative has tattooed in their mental Rolodex, yes the dreaded, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" First thought is, "Tomorrow isn't promised, yet you want me to give you a 5-year forecast, seriously?" Perhaps the appropriate response should be, "Five years ago, did you see yourself hiring me?"

Finally, one of my all time annoying favorites is "Think outside the Box", that bitch of a phase urks me beyond belief. First of all, who's stupid enough to get themselves into a box, let along need someone else to direct them to "think" once outside of it. Shouldn't they have thought prior to getting into the box? I'm just saying.

Simply put, it means, Bye.

Shanghai Girls – An Interesting Head Shaking Read

Our book club, Circle of Sistahs had the privilege of reading Shanghai Girls, by Lisa See

My goodness gracious, if you haven't read this book, please do. This is such an interesting and head shaking read. Seriously, as you read about May and Pearl, two sisters living in Shanghai in the mid-1930s, who are beautiful, sophisticated, and well-educated - you will get caught up, you will get involved, and most of all, you will be moved.

The girls are living a nontraditional and carefree life of privilege, sadly they are unaware their family is on the verge of bankruptcy, until the day their father tells them that he has gambled away their wealth and that in order to repay his debts he must sell the girls as wives to suitors who have traveled from California to find Chinese brides. But when the sisters leave China and arrive at Angel's Island (the Ellis Island of the West)--where they are detained, interrogated, and humiliated for months--they feel the harsh reality of leaving home. And when May discovers she's pregnant the situation becomes even more desperate. The sisters make a pact that no one can ever know.

As Japanese bombs fall on their beloved city, Pearl and May set out on the journey of a lifetime, one that will take them through the Chinese countryside, in and out of the clutch of brutal soldiers, and across the Pacific to the shores of America. In Los Angeles they begin a fresh chapter, trying to find love with the strangers they have married, brushing against the seduction of Hollywood, and striving to embrace American life even as they fight against discrimination, brave Communist witch hunts, and find themselves hemmed in by Chinatown's old ways and rules.

I really would like to see this book adapted into a movie - as long as it stays true to the storyline as written by Lisa See. Perhaps they can take a page from another book focusing on Women of Asian descent, "The Joy Luck Club" (1989) is a best-selling novel written by Amy Tan. It focuses on four Chinese American immigrant families in San Francisco, California who start a club known as "the Joy Luck Club," playing the Chinese game of mahjong for money while feasting on a variety of foods. In 1993, the novel was adapted into a feature film directed by Wayne Wang and starring Ming-Na, Lauren Tom, The screenplay was written by the author Amy Tan along with Ronald Bass. They had the good sense to have the author write the screenplay and that may have been the reason the movie manage to mirror the book so well. And I see no reason why they cannot do the same with Shanghai Girls.

Simple Techniques to Help You Lose 10 Pounds in One Week

EAT PRAY LOVE - An Onscreen Travel Blog

Well, as much as I enjoy a Julie Roberts movie on occasion, dull is what I find myself saying about her most recent movie in which she plays the main character, Liz Gilbert in ' Eat Pray Love' one of those 'find yourself' movies. This movie which is suppose to be about a woman, Liz Gilbert, that has lost her passion for life; was more or less an onscreen travel blog - without action or excitement.

Mini-Synopsis: Liz leaves everything behind, including her (newly) ex-husband, Stephen (Billy Crudup) and her even newer wanna-be-actor boyfriend, David (James Franco) to travel for an entire year. First, she goes to Italy for a few months and rediscovers the joy of eating - I found the Italy experience to be one of the best, if not the only interesting of her experiences in the movie. The second country she goes to is India. In India she supposedly finds her inner peace through prayer and meditation - enough said. The final destination is Bali, where she hopes to find balance - and the way she finds it, you guessed it, she falls in love with a wonderful man that makes her feel alive again. Well, well, well, how else could there be a predictable neat and tidy happy ending without the protagonist falling in love.

Oh, one of the most memorable scenes (for me) in the movie, was when Liz and her buddy (during her India experience), Richard (Richard Jenkins) from Texas who referred to her as 'groceries' because of her appetite, was leaving for the airport. As Liz and Richard were walking, the extras in the background were looking at Liz as if she were Julie Roberts, that was too freaking funny. Of course in the next shot, the movie editor caught the flaw - too late.

I'm glad I used my free-pass to see this chick-flick and I only did so because my copy of the book (which I needed to read for a book club meeting) hadn't come in yet. What I did truly goes against my rules - never see a movie before reading the book it was adapted from; and I don't know how I could ever force myself to read the book now, considering what a snooze I found the movie to be - so I won't, because I just can't.

“a fun and exciting, fast-paced auction website. On QuiBids, you can win all sorts of popular products at amazing low prices,”

That sounds great! exciting! and fun! doesn’t it? Well that’s what I thought as well. What I didn’t count on, but should have known was that…

“but you must purchase bids before you can win. “

And in order to do that you must,

“choose the Bid Pack you want and fill out your payment information on the right. “ Have no fear, because “QuiBids accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.”

In the help section it indicates that QuiBids offers 45, 75, 300, 600 and 800 bids. Here are 3 bids packs that I found on the site:

Keep in mind, lilylee had this bid won with only 1 second left on the clock, but wouldn’t you know it, up pops a bid from willID3 which adds another $.01¢ to the price, which isn’t bad, but if lilylee had it won at less than $10.00 why is the bid still going at $22.33? Because along with the additional $.01¢ for each bid, a timer is reset with another 0:20 seconds yes, that’s right every time someone else bids another 0:20 seconds is added to the timer. Ummmm makes you wonder.

Well, the bidding for the above item is closed and the winner is, Jennyleigh who placed 7 bids @ .60¢ = $4.20 with a final price of only $46.13 – that’s a heck of a bargain on a camera retailing at more than a thousand dollars. I wish I could have made that deal, but I don’t think I’m ready to take that plunge yet – I need to do more research. In the meantime, I’ve come across a few reviews that I found interesting, and you may too.

QuiBids & Swoopo, two names I found doing the same thing. It’s genius. Each bid cost 60 cents but each bid only increments the price by a couple cents or maybe a nickle … so think about it. You buy a block of bids, say the minimum of 40, which cost you $24.00. You bid on an item and that bid cost you 60 cents but the item amount only increased a nickel. So if you are bidding on an item that is at $4.00 and it started at zero … there have already been 80 bids placed if each bid increments a nickel. At $4, they have already made $24. Say the item finally sells for $100. At 5 cent bid increments, it took 2000 bids to reach $100 and at 60 cents per bid they just made $1200 on a $100 sale. If the increments are only 2 cents per bid, they made $3000 on a $100 sale. If you won, you pay the winning amount plus all the amount you spent on the bids, plus shipping, so you just spent $124 + shipping.

I don’t know, after watching the bidding on the Nikon D90 – a camera I’d really like to have and to be able to get it for only $43.13, that would be wonderful! But the length of time it took for the experienced bidders to close this deal and to see it go to someone who entered the bidding long after the original bidder, makes me wonder if I would stand a chance on QuiBids.com.

Final thought, at an auction if someone out bids you, you DON’T still have to pay your offered bid; that’s not the case with QuiBids, even if you’re out bid, you’re going to have to pay the money you’ve offered to bid. The site may appear to offer unbelievably great deals, and it does – at a cost. Just remember to READ all the terms and conditions, but also be prepared to pay sums of money for something you still may not even get.

Mad Men: Public Relations Vs. The Dangerously Dapper Don

What was Don thinking when he eluded a reporter’s “Who is Don Draper?” – question, I’m guessing, he still does not like talking about himself. Perhaps just this once, he should have. During the premier episode of the fourth season for AMC’s “Mad Men”, Don Draper’s aloofness comes close to costing his newly formed company some business, business they can’t afford to lose. To top it off, The partners are informed by Pete that his buddy, Ho-Ho is pulling the Jai Alai account because Don didn’t mention them in the interview. And his partners aren’t too happy. Don is unimpressed.

One of many interesting highlights of the new episode was the Jantzen swimwear execs that Pete snagged into a meeting as potential clients.

Although Don presented the Jantzen execs with a great layout showing a black bar that covered the model's breasts along with a catchy slogan, "So well built, we can't show you the second floor". The execs objected, insisting they want to remain a wholesome company and their two-piece swimsuits should be presented as such. Don gets fed up with prudish restrictions. He snaps, “You’re too scared of the skin your two-piece was designed to show off.” He stalks out; only to return and kick them out of the office, literally. Priceless.

Don wasn’t the only one causing mayhem in Sunday’s episode…

After Pete loses the Sugarberry Ham account – Peggy comes up with the idea to hire actresses to fight over the ham at a grocery store. They neglect to consult with Don. Who later has to provide Peggy with bail and hush money for the women.

During Thanksgiving dinner at Henry’s mother’s house. It’s clear that the writers are continuing to develop Sally’s defiant and strong-willed behavior from last season. Right at the dining table with all guests present, she spits out the sweet potatoes that her mother crammed into her mouth after she clearly refused to eat them - perhaps she should have been named Don Jr.

Henry’s mother pulled no punches when later letting Henry know she does not care for his new wife. Telling him, not only did she think Betty was silly and beneath him, but that he could have gotten what he wanted from Betty without marrying her. Doubt if she’s campaigning for mother-in-law of the year.

Betty, Henry and the kids are still living in the Ossining home past the date stipulated in the divorce settlement. And to throw salt into his already impatient wounds, Henry and Betty kept Don waiting the evening following Thanksgiving. Betty is so openly inconsiderate and flip about it, that Don requests that they move out or start paying rent. "It's temporary," says Henry. "Trust me, everybody thinks this is temporary," Don snaps. Yet exits mannerly.

Betty is steamed, but Henry thinks they should move, and points out to Betty that she hasn’t even been looking. Of course, Betty claims she wants to spare the kids further upheaval. Perhaps its because she’s being spiteful toward Don, not to mention attempting to play both ends against the middle, for the attention she so hungrily curves.

The episode concludes with Dapper Don Draper meeting with a Wall Street Journal reporter. And with charm and finest abandoning all modesty, Don tells the reporter. "Last year, our agency was being swallowed whole," The reporter is on the edge of his seat intrigue while trying to capture every word. Don lifts his glass & says. "I could die of boredom or holster up my guns. So I walked into Lane Pryce's office and I said, 'Fire us.' Within a year, we'd taken over two floors of the Time-Life Building."

And that’s how MM starts its fourth season – so worth the wait.

Enlightening Dramatic Wonderful Read

This novel is a MUST read for everyone. The author reveals the painful pleasures that some slaves endure, through some of the most well-developed and memorable characters depicted in print. This isn't a tired old story of slavery, anything but. This story is about families, friendships, love and so much more. It tells of the advantages/disadvantages and relationships the Wenches have and had with their masters - it tells of an idyllic resort and the summers spent there. This story enlightens the readers to a whole new world. The author, Dolen Perkins-Valdez has mastered story-telling with this, her debut novel.
I am looking forward to more of the same from her.

The Bounty Hunter – rent it if you need to get some sleep.

Geez, what was I thinking I can not tell you how much I truly regret wasting my $1.07 at Redbox on this so-called “action-romance.” movie. The Bounty Hunter, really?.…. Let’s put aside my opinion of Jennifer Aniston & her limited-talent as an actress (beyond television). What Aniston has had going for her is the media’s constant reference to her connection to Brad Pitt and being a blonde, which for some reason that I still can not fathom Hollywood seems to think solidifies one as star quality – perhaps all of Hollywood should dye their hair blonde and be done.

That said, Unfortunately, any talent Aniston supposedly has was not mustered into this performance. Instead, as usual and for some inexplicable reason, there was more focus on her looks and body in this supposed “action-romance.”

As there are no surprises in this, slow paced “action” flick, I won’t spoil it (any more than I already have) for those who still may actually want to rent it. Butler plays Milo Boyd, an ex-cop, now bounty hunter who’s thrilled from his head to his toes when an old friend drops an assignment in his lap that calls for bringing Nicole Hurley (Aniston), his ex-wife who is a reporter for the New York Daily News, in for skipping bail.

Despite the rumors of Aniston and Butler being an off-screen item during filming, this pair shared absolutely no sparks what-so-ever on the screen; it was as if one found out the other had something they didn’t wish to catch. On-Screen, Milo and Nicole seemed to despise each other so much that it was hard to even imagine why these two characters would have ever been married in the first place. Which truly made it difficult to root for them to get back together — which is usually the central theme of movies of this sort. However, I must admit, I was rooting for the end to be quick and painless as possible. Alas, it was not – it dragged on at a very slow pace.

He captures her, she escapes. He finds her, he loses her. She needs his help, he needs her help, blah, blah, blah, you know the routine.

Oh, the twist? if you can call it that, is Nicole (Aniston) needs to get away from her bounty hunter – ex so that she can follow up on a story lead, surrounding the mystery circumstances of a suicide that was something more menacing than a suicide; and of course, only a cracker-jack reporter such as Nicole along with her boarder-line stalker co-worker, can solve it.

Recommendation, rent this when all else fails. Or you need to get some sleep.

Death at a Funeral Delightfully Generates Laughter

Surprisingly, Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence were relatively the straight-men in this 2010 adaptation of the 2007 British film of the same name. So don’t look to them to bring their usual stand-up brand of humor to this film, instead look to these two comic giants to graciously tip their comedian hats to an ensemble cast that mesh extremely well together; not to mention, Director Neil LaBute smoothly orchestrates the flow of screwball action.

This adaptation is almost a scene-by-scene remake of a 2007 British movie with the same title, and the mysterious guest Frank is played by the same actor, Peter Dinklage , and he's even funnier this time around.

What was meant to be a respectful solemn service quickly turns into a fiasco, when dysfunctional kinfolks reunite to mourn the death of Aaron (Rock) and Ryan (Martin Lawrence) beloved father. While mourners gather at the family home, the descendant’s sons find out that their father had been living on the down-low, and to add insult to injury, their father’s 4-foot tall gay lover shows up, expecting them to pay him generously to keep silent about the affair the sons have a hard time believing ever occurred.

One of the back-stories that makes this comedy stand-out stems from Cousin Elaine (Zoe Saldana) not knowing that a bottle labeled "Valium" contained a next generation hallucinogen concocted by her brother (Columbus Short) when she gives one of the pills to her boyfriend, Oscar (James Marsden). Marsden takes an old gag of his character, Oscar accidentally freaked out on drugs to bizarre heights, and has the audience doubled over in their seats with laughter.

The widow, Loretta Devine comedic timing is flawless as she seems to acquaint her husband’s death with the absence of a grandchild, a child Aaron’s wife, Michelle (Regina Hall) is so desperate to have, and attempts to get her husband to fertilize her during the midst of absolute chaos. And as for Danny Glover he is over the top as crabby Uncle Russell, who could easily make a saint want to push him down a flight of stairs, wheel chair and all. There is so much more to say about this film but time and space do not permit, just know that Death at a Funeral is delightfully amazing and generates belly-roll laughter.

Why Did I Get Married Too, Is Worth Seeing Too

Although Tyler Perry's latest couple's retreat theory adaptation was not screened for critics, who knows why the heck not, perhaps because his movies are critic-proof; but regardless of critics and certain audience members not giving this movie the chance it deserves along side the others, it is an entertaining positive portrait of upper-middle-class life, and to top that off, despite critics and nay-sayers, it still earned over $30.1M at the box office during its opening weekend.

Tyler Perry has ascended to the status of media mogul on the strength of his combination of Christian morality, slapstick comedy, and soap-operatic melodrama. In 2005, his play DIARY OF A MAD BLACK...Tyler Perry displays his strength as a media mogul while using a combination of comedy and Christian morality, in this sequel to his 2007 “Why Did I Get Married” Perry continues to provide his audience with positive portrayals of (African-American) characters and family-friendly-subject matter, this film can actually appeal to a broad audience if given a chance beyond the color structure, because the subject matter is universal, and features an engaging cast.

The synopsis of the movie is that, four Atlanta couples who have been friends since college take their (second) annual one-week therapeutic retreat getaway, this time to the Bahamas, to evaluate their marriages and improve their relationships. Terry (Tyler Perry) and Dianne (Sharon Leal) are blissfully happy – but are they really, with two little kids at home. Angela (Tasha Smith) and Marcus (Michael Jai White) fight constantly, probably because she suspects that he's a serial cheater and she's clearly a belligerent lush – but is there something that lays beneath the surface that isn’t known to the other or both. Patricia (Janet Jackson), the bestselling self-help author, and her husband, Gavin (Malik Yoba), appear to be happy but are obviously concealing something, other than the fact that they don’t have the picturesque marriage she portrays they neither have nor the one he claims he wants them to have. And Sheila (Jill Scott) is there with her new husband, Troy (Lamman Rucker), a decent man who's a welcome replacement for her ex loathsome Mike (Richard T. Jones), but Troy appears to be concealing a secret he doesn’t want his spouse to share with the others. And speaking of the ex, Mike, he has the nerve to show up unexpectedly and unwelcomed. But the real melodrama begins when the couples get back to Atlanta, as Mike has an even more shocking and more disturbing secret to share with Sheila and the others. Which almost pales in comparison to the dramatic conclusion of events surrounding the other couple(s), including and especially… Ooops! lets not give this away to those who’ve not had the opportunity to see this entertaining movie.

The movie is enjoyable, it was not as predictable as part 1 or as so many other sequels and movies are, there are indeed some twist and turns not anticipated in this one. Although audiences will doubled over with laughter, they will indeed appreciate the dramatic intensity from the characters & storyline as well.

I don't know how I missed this particular book in 2004, because I thought I had read all of Bernice McFadden's novels. Needless to say, I checked it out of the library and I'm currently reading it now, and I must admit, I am intrigued as to what will become of the remaining characters, as I've already witnessed the destruction of a mentally challenged woman's beauty inside & out, following a terrible accident that claim the lives of her husband and unborn child... Oops, I don't want to spoil it for others.

However, here's a synopsis of what this book has to offer: Camilla has been estranged from her unruly family since she went to college, leaving behind a drug-addicted mother, a grandmother raising scads of abandoned grandchildren, and an addled great-aunt. Ashamed of her family and her race, she lightened her skin and adopted a false background. She is living a complete lie when tragedy strikes, and she discovers... Oops! again, I've said to much.

SUPERBOWL - WHAT CAN I SAY?

It is Superbowl weekend people, what else can I say? I could say GO SAINTS! or listen to others foolishly say, go Colts. I could even break down the Saints chances of winning and provide you with endless feedback from the season's wins that have lead up to this moment. I could even give you the stats for that other team, but what would be the fun in that? At this moment and for me, it would be pointless. So what I'm going to say instead is, I'm going to hang out with family and friends while watching the annual sporting event to end all sporting events. Eat, drink, laugh, and talk trash about the opponents; and have far too much fun poking fun at the ridiculously overpriced under-achieved advertisements, that for what they cost could have perhaps fed me and ALL my family and friends for the rest of our lives - well maybe not for the rest of our lives, but for at least the next 10 years or more.

I will perhaps edit this entry tomorrow prior to kick off time, then again, maybe not. It depends - I have so much to do and so little time to complete my tasks. Let's just say if I am able to, I will clean this post up a bit. I'm not making any promises, after all I do have other issues on my plate - getting ready for game time can be challenging you know. Oh crap, I have a proposal I'm suppose to write I should stop messing around and get right on that. Pause for reality check ---- What am I thinking, I don't work on Sundays unless it is absolutely necessary, and I can assure you or myself if that's what it boils down to, it is not absolutely necessary to do anything today, other than what I will be doing - and that is...

AMELIA BOYNTON ROBINSON A BLACK TREASURE

It saddens me somewhat that I have lived the number of years I have and did not know of this Black Treasure amongst us.

Amelia Boynton Robinson was the first woman black or white to run for Congress from the state of Alabama, winning 10 percent of the vote at a time when only 5 percent of registered voters were African-American. Then, on what became known as "Bloody Sunday", she was brutally beaten and left for dead by Alabama state troopers as she and other African-Americans tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge to march on Montgomery. According to the Nielsen numbers released today, NBC's Golden Globes broadcast sparkled a little brighter in the ratings this year.

"The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards" had 14 percent more viewers than last year's show. The three-hour event drew 16.9 million viewers, surpassing the 14.9 million viewers accounted for in 2009.

The event was aired live by NBC in all time zones, rather than delayed for prime-time broadcast in the West, as in past years.

Hosted this year by British actor-comedian Ricky Gervais, who displaced his marketing skills shamelessly promoting himself and his products.

Robert Downey Jr. prove to be one of the big winners of the evening, not only as a recipient of the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical award, but for his memorable speech as well.

THE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION CAN NOT BE RESTRICTED-COMMUNICATION IS INCREDIBLE

My current accommodations are equipped with all the comforts and amenities one could hope for, but there is a considerable language barrier that exists between me and the owners. The owners speak English and because it’s uncertain if I originated from the United States, I suspect they are under the impression that I am incapable of comprehending their simple language. I say this because they constantly resort to screaming and throwing things toward my direction when I refuse to response to the commands they bark at me; perhaps they should consider the fact that clearly I do not wish to sit at any given moment, because if I did, I would have done so when they initially commanded me to do so, that’s another issue in and of itself, they chose to command rather than request that I do certain things which is perhaps why I chose to defy them. Sure I could do it, but why should I? They don’t do the things I would like for them to do, such as bring me home a decent meal and stop forcing that dry tasteless crap on me, that they purchase by massive pounds from Sam’s, Costco's, or wherever the sale may be that week.

Communication is an incredible form of expression, to be able to converse one on one with another on a vast array of subjects is not only exciting but informative as well. however, from time to time others may find themselves faced with an enormous obstacle, otherwise known as a language barrier – when this occurs it is best to either adapt to the situation by breaking down the barrier and learning the language or by improvising as I’ve been known to do on a number of occasion and ignoring the noise and express one’s self the best way one can – Howl, yowl, or wail if necessary, but by all means express yourself and be heard, even if they act as if they don’t know what the heck you’re saying. When the owners pretend to not know what I am saying, oh I get their attention, with a few accidents here and there or some well-defined scratches on the door, my message is clear and I am heard. I refuse to learn human-English, because it’s obvious they’re not attempting to learn my language, and until they do, I will continue my freedom of expression.

Milestone Tradition Ends With Anew – And Resolutions Be Damn.

Milestone birthdays 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th, 55th, and so on usually consist of throwing a big hoorah party with family and friends. Or perhaps traveling via a Carnival cruise ship to exotic exciting Barbados, offering endless fun filled days basking in the shimmering glow of the sun while floating on the clam coral blue waters – or digging your toes into the warm white sand as you sit on the beach and sip leisurely on a tall refreshing drink recommended as one of the favorites the local natives enjoy. However, sometimes traditions are meant to be broken or at least amended. No need to wait to proclaim a New Year’s resolution, that you may not keep, instead opt for a gift worth giving onto yourself and others. That said…

Well, wouldn’t you know it, a milestone birthday for a certain Writer has arrived and not wanting to be a follower or just feeling its time to break with tradition, I’ve decided to give myself one of the best gifts I could possibly give or receive, a self-serving meant to be shared gift - the gift of accomplishment. In my case, that gift would consist of the completion of my novel; starting with a jumping off point of publishing 2-4 novellas to be followed by the ultimate goal of accomplishment, so look for it, the suspense (novel) I will soon be sharing. In the meantime, Happy Birthday to me.

Oh Where oh Where Is Scripted TV, Oh Where oh Where Can It Be?

With reality television shows springing forth at the speed of sound – and multiplying as fast as rabbits in heat - the list is endless with titles from A-Z: A Dating Game to zBlow Out. It is very difficult to select a favorite television show these days, unless its label as a “reality show". It seems every week a new reality show springs forth designed around someone trying to make a come back or remain in the limelight: Flavor Flav, Flavor Of Love or Denise Richards, It's Complicated; or some unheard of trying to make a name for themselves: Jon & Kate, The Bachelor, or Wife Swap. Apparently those that can’t act, do reality shows. Either way, it is becoming all to familiarly boring. Most of these shows are just cookie-cutters of one another, basically if you’ve seen one you’ve seen the other. Ironically, knowingly being followed around by a camera crew, isn’t reality – its really just people performing for a camera at their own home or in a selected setting, footage which is clearly edited for television.

Someone mention that the reason the boob-tube is bombarded with the screaming hollering foolishness of reality TV is because it is cheaper to produce than scripted television. What the heck?! Just because some producers are too cheap to open their wallets does that mean viewers must subscribe to cable or satellite just to see a television series, which is only there in re-run syndication? Although there seems to be an unbelievable market for the annoyance of fist fights, hair pulling, cursing, and name calling; Why can’t they air series that speak to the remaining viewing audience in ways that have an entertaining engaging plot or storyline instead of being reminiscence of a Jerry Springer smack-down episode. There are a few scripted-series on the air, but clearly reality shows outnumber them hands down. Its as though the Writers are still on strike, and they’re throwing anything at the viewers. And what’s being pitched isn’t worth the 30-60 minutes it fills the screen on a weekly basis; just 5 to 10 minutes into one of these reality shows gives one a great appreciation for books. Reading is fundamental and an easy way to escape reality, reality TV that is.

Love That Snow

~ Love That Snow or A Southerner Moves to North/East ~

December 8: 6:00 P.M. It started to snow The first snowfall of the season. The wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge snowflakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses print. So romantic. We felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!

December 9: We awoke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I have ever had! Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!

December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such adisappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry. We willdefinitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that is possible. Bob is such a nice man. I'm glad he's our neighbor.

December 14: Snow, lovely snow! Eight degrees last night. The temperature dropped to minus twenty. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back in the afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize that I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so much.
December 15: 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and two extra snow shovels. Stocked the freezer too. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think she is silly. After all, we aren't in Alaska.

December 16: Ice storm this morning. Fell on my rear on the ice in the driveway while I was trying to put down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour. I think she's very cruel.

December 17: Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. I guess I should have bought a wood stove, but I won't admit that to her. God, I hate it when she is right. Can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.

December 20: Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of the damn stuff last night. More shoveling. Took all day. Damn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they are lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I will have to shovel or the city will bill me. I think he's lying.

December 22: Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white stuff fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt until August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed to go out to shovel and then I had to pee. By the time I got undressed, peed and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. I tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter, but he says he's too busy. I think he's lying.

December 23: Only 2" of snow today. And, it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she.....nuts??? Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago. She said she did, but I think she's lying.

December 24: 6". Snow packed so hard by the snowplow, I broke the shovel. I though I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the SOB who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by his family jewels. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and than he comes down the street at a 100 miles and hour and throws snow all over where I have just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas Carols with her and open our presents, but I was busy watching for the darn snowplow.

December 25: Merry Christmas! 20 more inches of the darned slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. God, I hate the snow. Then, the snowplow driver came by and asked for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have bad attitude. I think she's an idiot. If I have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to kill her.

December 26: Still snowed in. Why the heck did I ever move here? It was all her idea. She's really getting on my nerves.

December 27: Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze.

December 28: Warmed up to above-50. Still snowed in. The wife is driving me crazy!!!!!

December 29: 10 more inches of snow. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it will collapse. That's the silliest thing I have ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?????

December 30: Roof caved in. The snowplow driver is suing me for a million dollars for the bump on his head. The wife went home to her mother. 9" predicted.

December 31: Set fire to what was left of the house. No more shoveling.

Reading Angelia Jolie’s call for action (in a Newsweek editorial) to the situation in Sudan, gave me pause for thought. And although Jolie has some valid points including, “Holding perpetrators of mass atrocities accountable is the best way to ensure justice today and peace in the future.” I wondered who do WE, the American people get to hold accountable for its current and continued catastrophes?
Hopefully Jolie isn’t implying that President Obama should wage yet a third war against Sudan. As there has been quite enough unnecessary bloodshed to last all mankind a lifetime. Though American citizens seem to think we are the saviors to each and every war torn nation, it is quite apparent the U.S. didn’t learn very much from the Vietnam war, practically the need to value American lives as much as some seem to think the U.S. should value the lives of Foreign countries – tragically other nations don’t seem to be duty-bound nor compelled to save our U.S. Troops that are still being sacrificed in Iraq and Afghanistan; yet we (America) are suppose to feel obligated to do so for others. America by no means needs to become involved in yet another war in an effort to save yet another country unwilling or inapt to fight its own battles. Simply put, we don’t need more slain U.S. Troops, more American widows/widowers, nor do we need more American orphans.
Appreciate that (we) Americans are not heartless human beings and as incredibly disturbing as the situation in Darfur may be, it needs to be understood that the situation here in the United States of America is incredibly disturbing as well, and if we don’t get help soon – we may very well become another third world country whose seeking the help Darfur supporters are demanding from us now.
A reader replied to Jolie’s editorial with: “…we are and should be the President's first priority. He is the President of the United States and serves the American people first.” That in and of itself is a truth far too many seem to forget; and that is what should be inscribed on U.S. Currency, as a reminder to everyone who has forgotten which country the President of the United States presides over. “… I will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Just wondering when the United States will take precedence over all others.
While Jolie is calling for action from the White House, just wondering if, General Martin Luther Agway the Nigerian military officer and commander of the combined United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force in Darfur still believes what he said, a week before he was scheduled to leave Darfur? When he declared that the genocide in Darfur was over. "…people trying to resolve issues over water and land at a local level. But real war as such, I think we are over that."
In Jolie’s Newsweek editorial, she offers recommendations to improve the U.N. Security Council's responsiveness, ‘while urging the United States to make clear its willingness to act on its own if necessary’. Some may take issue with the latter of her suggestion. If the U.S. chooses to stand alone, they could very well be setting themselves up for isolation and destruction. You can not retain allies (in or outside the UN) if you refuse to maintain alliances with them. With that said…
As we continue to save the world, Jolie as well as others that support (all)causes abroad, may wish to keep in mind, that at some point the United States will have to consider taking care of the United States and the citizens that reside on U.S. soil.

Author, Writer, or Pimped?

For as far back as I can remember I’ve always had a great passion for reading the works of other Authors and for story-telling in and of itself, so much so that I genuinely thought I wanted to become an Author – and I still do wish to become a published Author. However, several years later and still without my own published works, other than a 52 page gift book of, Short engaging quotes of love and affection, Internet Marketing projects, and Content writing projects; realization is beginning to sink in – how can I complete a novel when I don’t even seem to be able to compose a freakin blog post without wanting to pull out my hair. Am I trying too hard or not hard enough? Am I inapt or just haven’t found my true Author’s voice yet? I’ve never wanted to give up my heart’s desire, I’m just wondering if I have the capabilities of fulfilling my dream.
What the heck made me think I could write, or continue to write and make a living out of doing it? Just because I love doing it, just because nothing else I’ve ever done in life has made me feel this charged. Is it enough to eat, sleep, and breathe the written word? Or is an Author truly something special – are they born or breed to be such? I not certain, I just know I’ve spend numerous years professing my desire to become a published Author – I have several unfinished manuscripts. I’ve even gone so far as to proclaim that I am a Freelance Writer, starting my own writing service – which initially wasn’t doing as well as I’d hope, but has started looking more promising, and I will commit to a serious marketing campaign before the end of the year to ensure that in 2010 the business will have a higher success rate. In the mean time, I’m curious, how the heck do people think of the zillions of tantalizing topics they post to the zillions of blogs, on a daily basis without spending endless amounts of time thinking of what to write, not to mention the research involved and still have time to devote to serious writing or to their regular job? Do they have some magical writing program that I can purchase, do they have a new revised Thesaurus that I don’t have access to, or is it simply a talented gift they possess, that is far beyond my grasp? I’m wondering too, if I missed a step because I’m not making the mass amount of income that other Writers profess to be reaping. Don’t get me wrong, I have found some success with Internet Marketing, Reputation Management, and the SEO services that I offer, and although Internet usage has been on the rise for some time now, writing projects seem to have become quite lean during the last few years, especially when it comes to the pay rate. In an effort to supplement my income, I’ve begin searching the web for writing jobs, and there are quite a number of them listed. The only thing is, the pay rate for those jobs is insulting. I have never been naive about the financial riches rewarded to Authors/Writers, but lets be honest, .01¢ - .05¢/wd is freakin ridiculous. At those rates, I guess I’m not a Writer; and as far as I’m concerned anyone who agrees to write for rates so ridiculously low can’t consider themselves Writers either, and I can pretty much guarantee an Author would never compromise themselves or skills to write for pennies a word. I may not be able to write the next best-seller right now, or be the greatest Internet Marketing Writer on the planet, but I know what pimping is, and any employer offering pennies for a writing project is attempting to pimp the Writer, and obviously isn’t expecting quality work.
I recently responded to an ad for a “Social Media/Website/Blog writer”, and received the following response from the poster after inquiring about the rate for said writing project: “I'm not looking for someone who applies for a job with negativity on their tongue.” This coming from a guy too lazy or inapt to even bother to capitalize the word “I” throughout his four paragraph response, in which he still neglected to answer my question. BTW, here’s my inquiry: “I would like to know what the rate or project budget will be for this assignment? If the rate is at an insulting penny per word rate, I must thank you but I really wouldn't be interested in participating.” Perhaps its me, but I don’t read negativity in my request to know how much I’d be paid for providing unique content that would enhance someone’s business. I’ve wasted too much of my time and effort applying and submitting samples only to learn the job pays only $3 apiece for 375-400 word articles that as the ad expressed, “expects each of them can pass the scrutiny of Google's duplicate contact checker” or $1 for a 500 word article. I’m trying to write and earn a reasonable wage doing so, and although I follow a blog entitled Chrystal’s Corner, I can assure you I wasn’t standing on it when I applied for any of the writing assignments, so what makes these employers think they can pimp me or any other Writer? Check out the interesting answer about rates from Chrystal Online as well as, one of the employers: “If you want to thank someone for reformatting the sweatshop for the white-collar, work-at-home, 21st century world, thank Google ... it's all an unintended consequence of the Adword and Adsense bastardization of the Web.”
There is a difference between an Author and a Writer – a Writer wrote this post, the Author is still seeking the realization of a dream – publication of a novel, neither wishes to be pimped at pennies per word.

Cage’s Hardship Is A Little Cagey

According to People Magazine, 45 year old Nicolas Cage, who filed a lawsuit blaming his financial collapse on his longtime business partner, had his two historic French Quarter homes purchased in a foreclosure auction on Thursday. People Magazine also reported that the houses went for $4.5 million – about two-thirds the appraised value – to Cage's lender, Regions bank, the lone bidder. Cage's belongings were seen being cleared out by movers on Friday.

And why didn't he take some responsibility regarding his own finances? No one should be too busy to double check the person handling their money. Just ask Oprah, who has always urged celebrities & others to keep an eye on your own money.

Again, I must point out to those like Cage who don’t seem to know it, but being rich does not negate you from being responsible for your own finances. If you think you are too important, busy, or wealthy to keep an eye on your own money, than clearly you don’t really deserve to complain when it’s gone. How is it that there are some so-called stars who can’t seem to be able to handle their own lives without an entourage of assistants, advisors, housekeepers, and what-nots? When there are so many others who don’t seem to have an issue with handling their own affairs, or keeping an eye on those they’ve hired to do it for them. Perhaps he should take a page from the book(s) of Oprah, who has stated on numerous occasions, “You must keep an eye on your own money.” Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and others who also follow a similar philosophy. I could be wrong, but I’m almost certain the aforementioned are as busy, if not busier than Nick Cage.

Mad Men’s Betty Draper’s Ordeal - Depression or Selfishness?

You do not have to be a television couch-potato, to become a die-hard fan of Mad Men (aka MM) all it seems to take is your undivided attention to an episode – and you could very well become hooked. Most baby-boomers can appreciate how well the series’ managers to capture the ambiance of the 60s era. And everyone else can just appreciate the opportunity to be transported back in time and experience what they weren’t able to first-hand.

Writer, Susan Weissman’s recent (11 November 2009) article in The Huffington Post, posed a question that ask, if the alluring Betty Draper character would smile before next season’s final episode, Well, since the third season finale aired Sunday 8 November 2009, and it was a tantalizing cliff-hanging finale, with the promise of a phenomenal fourth season; it’s probably safe to say that MM fans are more interested in the start of the fourth season next year, as oppose to the final episode.

As for Betts (as her husband Don refers to her as), she's what some refer to as spoiled and self-centered. Most women like Betty who were so use to having the spotlight shone on them that they can't bare to have anyone else upstage them in the attention category, including their own children - so they create a dramatic/depressed atmosphere, starring none other than themselves. It appears that Betty doesn't smile often because she wants someone to ask her what they can do for her or give to her to make her smile. Perhaps she is frustrated with her life, because she's not doing much to contribute to her own happiness.

Anyway, Betts appears to be going from one open-wallet to another with her latest human-ATM, Hunter, the only thing is, she's not really taking much to the table is she? No, she's a pampered brat who does not work outside the home, but has the nerve to drink and smoke while watching her housekeeper cook, clean, & care for her children. Yet, she still can't seem to find a way to accomplish any goal she may have had or find anything meaningful to do with her endless free time.

Strippers are a dime a dozen - they can be found on almost any corner in any major city. What makes one stripper stand out from the others, is when she manipulates, schemes, and managers to get her name in the media by any means necessary.

Nicole, isn't the first gold-digger-stripper who claims to have sex with a well known celebrity in order to get her name on the D-list of Hollywood in an effort to work (oops) her way up to the C-list, nor is she the first, nor will she be the last, to think that any publicity is worth it's weight toward become famous - even if the fame is only as a D-list low-life-wanna-be, party girl that no one takes seriously and too many have had (yuck!). The question shouldn't be if he was good/bad in bed, but what was truly the motive of publicly stating that she had sex (regardless if its true) with Josh Duhamel? To become the buzz of the moment? Well, buzz buzz the moment is over for most, and should just be over.

Driver distractions caused by cellular phone usage has become increasingly important as cell phone use becomes more prevalent in daily life. Some people are torn on where they stand, because both sides can easily be favorably argued. There are countless studies citing reasons for banning cell phone usage including, a University of Utah study that shows conversing on cell phones while driving disrupts the driver's attention to the visual environment, or the inability to recognize objects encountered in the driver's visual field. Additionally they state that cell phone conversations create much higher levels of driver distractions than listening to the radio or audio books. Clearly they’ve not studied the numerous motorists who engage in vehicular-dancing while listening to the latest Rock n' Roll or R&B release kicking through their stereo system. There are drivers that periodically give a live concert whenever they hear a song with a serious beat -We've all seen them, their head and arms are so animated you wonder who's actually steering the vehicle. In all honesty, how can you not bob your head when Beyonce's "Ring the Alarm" or Pink's "So What" blares through the speakers? Nevertheless, vehicular-dancing while listening to the car stereo is also a distraction. Ooops, dare we let that cat out of the bag, they just may decide to ban radios from vehicles.

Admittedly, there are some hazards to cell phone usage during the operation of a motor vehicle, especially texting which requires you to visually focus on the phone's keyboard, instead of on the road, where the driver's focus belongs. But despite all the cons against, there are some pros as cell phones have become a valuable tool in conducting business as more employees are using them to perform their jobs. Among other things, they help boost productivity by keeping employees connected to the office and to clients; not to mention the invaluable use during road side emergencies. Let us not forget there are very few if any, public phones available especially on highways and local freeways. The point being, there can be safe, sensible, responsible use for a cell phone for a brief period of time. Short comments "I've run out of gas" or "I'm on my way."; not long lengthy or heated discussions. And Just as there is an appropriate time, there is an inappropriate time to use a cell phone in the car, as in, heavy traffic, bad weather and stressful conversations for examples. The major distracting menace when it comes to cell phone usage is texting; no one should be texting while operating a motor vehicle, it’s a serious and potentially deadly hazard. Therefore, it would be prudent to ban that particular function, not talking. Geez! How uncoordinated must you be not to be able to steer a vehicle and speak at the same time. Of course one would argue that there are a number of individuals who can’t manage to do so, but the majority of those individuals should not be driving under any circumstances. If your motor skills are in general operational order, you shouldn't have any difficulty uttering a few short words on a cell phone. Besides, there are hands-free devices readily available for every cell phone on the market.

According to studies conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some form of driver distraction is a contributing factor in 20 to 30 percent of all crashes. Numbers such as these are enough to lean toward the side of banning cell phones while driving. However, some data tells a different story, a much more comprehensive University of North Carolina study found that cell-phone use was responsible for only 1.5 percent of distracted driving accidents - completely contrary to popular belief. And a Harvard study gauge accidents caused by cell phones at 6 percent of the total. Much larger risks were outside events, other occupants in the vehicle and drivers adjusting radio and CD players. Therefore, most people, especially cell phone providers urge against jumping into cell-phone bans without careful consideration of the entire picture. Merely talking on a cell phone doesn't necessarily mean the phone contributed to an accident. Distracted driving is responsible for many accidents. But honest statistics imply that cell-phone use in vehicles accounts for only a very small percentage of those accidents, and that most drivers use handheld cell phones safely while driving.

Cell phones are being unfairly singled out from a raft of other potential distractions that could affect safety.

There is no way to eliminate all driving distractions, but if they wish to ban some of the causes let’s not stop at cell phone use. There are a number of distractions or unsafe actions that drivers should restrain from doing; including reading newspapers or books, putting on make-up, especially eye make-up; shaving; eating; searching for items on the seat or floor; watching television or movies and more. Common sense should factor into one’s actions while operating a motor vehicle. And of course, any action that impedes a driver’s performance should be met with consequences during the initial offense, not, and only after a life has been taken.

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest hazards on the road, second to the most dangerous of all offenders – the drunk drivers, are drivers who keep their pets on their laps and allow them to protrude from the driver's side window while the vehicle is in operation. Not only does it put the animal at risk of falling out of a moving vehicle, it is a serious driver distraction. Odd as it may seem to other motorists whose life is being jeopardized by this risky action, this driving activity is not illegal! Nor will a police officer arrest you if you can't bear to part with your precious four-legged canine or feline during your driving escapades. However, in most states if your pet causes you to drive in an unsafe manner you could be cited under the state's Negligent Driving law for endangering people or property. Undeniably, a loose pet is a greater hazard than speaking on a cell phone and there should be a ban on driving with pets running rapid in the vehicle, or sitting on the driver's lap. There have been countless times when driver's have been spotted wrestling to gain control over a moving pet seated on their lap. Not only is the driver's sight impaired, but they lose the ability to maintain control over the vehicle, because their hands are full trying to restrain the animal. Nothing personal against pets, but seriously, it's better for all concerned if pets were left at home, transported via a carrier, or merely placed in some sort of pet restraint in the back seat.

Perhaps educating and training drivers on a regular routine basis would be a more logical method for reducing accidents involving motor vehicles.

Banning cell phones may not be the solution, perhaps banning inapt drivers would be more beneficial. Some drivers are just plain ignorant to the rules of the road and cause havoc wherever they go and they do so without the use of a cell phone. They simply can not drive. Our efforts shouldn't be toward banning particular activities, be it cell-phone use, eating, or other common behaviors. Rather, we should be enforcing laws against the real problem, distracted and/or unskilled driving in general.

Frankly, there are far too many drivers who have no business behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, because they honestly just can’t drive. There are individuals who’ve never had a driver’s education course or any structured training, yet they managed to obtain an operator’s license; there are individuals who can’t even manage to steer a golf cart without causing or encountering problems, yet these individuals are issued a valid driver’s license, though their skills are anything but valid. Let’s face it, road menaces are all around us and surprisingly a great deal of them aren’t banishing a notorious cell phone.

Perhaps it’s not the use of cell phones that is the issue, perhaps the main reason lies with the number of inapt drivers on our road ways; one method to reduce accidents may be to reduce the number of inexperience drivers by increasing the road skills requirements. A fool-proof method may not exist that will eliminate the number of unsuitable drivers, but perhaps they could start by implementing mandatory driver’s education classes for all first time drivers regardless of age and 30 days of practice should be a part of the course. Additionally, to ensure drivers continue to operate under the state guidelines, perhaps licensed drivers should also be required to pass a road test at the time of each license renewal.

Finally, the way I see it, if anyone has the need to use a cell phone while in their car, the following simple safety tips may help:

Use a hands-free phone.
Never compose text messages while driving.
Always dial while the car isn't moving.
Never use the phone in heavy traffic or bad weather.
Use speed dialing as much as possible.
Never look up phone numbers while driving.
Never have stressful conversations while driving.
Keep your eyes on the road while on the phone.

Faye was acutely aware that she did not have very many Tweeter friends compared to those who boast of hundreds even unbelievably thousands. She did however think, the few that she had would rally their support for a good cause when called upon or needed. Well to her disappointing surprise she learn that was not the case when she attempted to gain voter support for a great job opportunity.
And let’s not leave out the number of people she actually follows on Twitter, whose stats she help to increase and causes she supported. Yet when called upon to do something as simple as cast 1 vote toward an employment opportunity, none seem to find the time to make one simple click. Perhaps it was her approach, perhaps it was her lack of celebrity status, but whatever the case may be, it prove to be an eye-opener. She’s vowed to definitely think twice about supporting all the endless status increasing causes, hosted by celebrities.
Celebrities need authenticity to rule on Twitter
It appears that celebrities will request, summon, and bait you to support and/or follow them, but they can not return the favor unless you are in one of their exclusive celebrity circles.
You can follow aplusk, his wife mrskutcher, or iamdiddy all you want; you can even select the infamous ‘share this’ button so you’ll be sure not to miss out on promoting their efforts through retweets, stumble up, buzz, share it , and others; but unless you’ve appeared in the media, movies, or are a personal friend, your changes of getting a response, let along gaining any support from certain Tweeters is zero.
Ashton Kutcher is one of the most popular users with more than 3 million Twitter followers and Faye and I, like so many other non-celebrities helped him to achieve his Twitter-crown during his self-promoting campaign earlier this year to have the most followers. But while he sits on his Tweeter-throne with the most followers, because the public took the time to answer his challenge/request, it is highly unlikely that he’d take a moment of his time to do the same for one of his many loyal followers – unless they are a celebrity.
Not only do Faye and I help celebrities gain follower status, by following, which is our choice, we also promote them and their activities on their other sites, like, UncleRUSH and his global grind.com blog site.
Don’t think for one minute that I think any of these people owe me or Faye anything, nor am I hoping to become their best friend, but for some insane reason Faye like myself thought that they would at least acknowledge important requests from their followers; our mistake.
Not all Celebrity Tweeters ignore their followers; stars like @bubblecow, @levarburton, @MC Hammer, @SherriShepherd, @THE_REAL_SHAQ , or @chriswebb participate actively on Twitter and interact with the users. Tweeters like these are the ones you may wish to follow and cultivate a friendship/relationship with, because there is a stronger possibility they will become your supportive and friendly followers as well.
I’m not suggesting that anyone boycott or that they shouldn’t support the request of celebrity tweeters – just know they’re not likely to support yours.

There is a goldmine of personal information on social networking sites and cyber-thieves are cashing in on it. Don’t let them get your information – think twice before you click on that!

All you have do is click it, and you’ll open up that hilarious video of Aunt Bunny falling down the stairs at the family cook-out, it’s just a harmless funny video that your best Facebook buddy wanted you to see; However when that message or link is opened, the user is lured to fake Web sites that trick them into divulging personal details and passwords. The phishing attack can penetrate the users’ accounts without their knowledge or consent. And once that happens, the thieves can continue to penetrate the users’ list of friends or contacts and repeat the attack on consequent victims.

Although you may only hear of a small percentage, malicious thieves are constantly attacking social networking sites. The continued growth of users on the social networks has made the networks extremely profitable for cyber-criminals and with Facebook users boasting of 150 friends or more; it’s like a smorgasbord of potential victims for the cyber-thieves.

Internet crimes have been around since the inception of the World Wide Web, and malicious software and viruses were usually the result of a prank. But now, the most common form of malware attack has become known as drive-by downloads. While surfing on Google or Yahoo, a computer virus or spyware is automatically and invisibly downloaded on a computer, requiring no interaction from the user for the computer to be infected.

Not since the abundance of social networking sites and their members has internet crime been so prevalent. Facebook alone boast that it has a whopping 300 million users, and Twitter, a micro-social-blogging site, has grown to more than 7 million users.

Be mindful of the enticements rampant on such sites as Facebook; you know the ones, claiming that one of your friends has the highest IQ score of the day of 140; he/she wants you to try to beat it. Also are those never ending applications that “need to access your account information” in order for you to continue or use it. And we all know too well from the countless media reports that putting personal photos on any public domain is risky – that innocent pic of you on the sofa is easily Photoshop to show you nude in a compromising situation – for resale on a porn site.

There are a number of reasons Cybercriminals are using phishing attacks, including trying to obtain private information, such as bank account numbers and passwords to perform even greater scams. They also try to redirect users to sites where profit is feed by the number of visitors. There was even a phishing attack involving one of the popular social sites in which a duplicate of their widely recognized light blue page was used in a hoax. To avoid situations such as this, users should always double-check the URL to ensure they are visiting the correct site.

Social networks are aggressively fighting back against the attacks from cybercriminals. Most sites have information pages dedicated to educating users about the risks of Internet scams. One of the most common pieces of advice given by security experts is to change passwords frequently. Facebook has also developed complex automated systems that detect compromised accounts. They spot and freeze accounts that are sending an unusually high number of messages to their friends; and will even go as far as to delete the account. Ultimately users must be responsible and utilize care while on the Internet, especially when exchanging personal information. I’m not telling you to delete your social network accounts, just suggesting you use caution while socializing. If you didn’t request it, or recognize it, think twice before you click on it!

There are far too many hunger, homeless, and unemployment people in America. So when I read articles as those written on: Cage, Rajaratnam, and Lohan; I must admit that to some degree it unnerves me a bit, to think that for some insane reason these individuals somehow think (or behave in a matter) that being rich grants them absolution or negates them from being responsible for their actions, deeds, or affairs. And by no means do I think all rich or wealthy people behave or think along these lines. But there are a number of them that seem to think it’s their God-given right to do so.

First, although I was once a loyal fan of Nicolas Cage I find it

disturbing that someone of his supposedly intelligence could whine publicly about not being smart enough to keep an eye on his own assets. I also find it difficult to support the “I’m broke” pity-party of someone pulling down 38 million dollars on one movie. Geez! He could feed a small country on that salary.

Among other things one of the statements in the article that really stands out for me is,

Again, I must point out to those like Cage who don’t seem to know it, but being rich does not negate you from being responsible for your own finances. If you think you are too important, busy, or wealthy to keep an eye on your own money, than clearly you don’t really deserve to complain when it’s gone. How is it that there are some so-called stars who can’t seem to be able to handle their own lives without an entourage of assistants, advisors, housekeepers, and what-nots? When there are so many others who don’t seem to have an issue with handling their own affairs, or keeping an eye on those they’ve hired to do it for them. Take a page from the book(s) of Oprah, who has stated on numerous occasions, “You must keep an eye on your own money.” Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and others also follow this philosophy; I’m almost certain the aforementioned are much busier than Nick Cage.

“Cage claimed that his recently-fired business manager had failed to pay taxes when they were due and had placed him in speculative and risky real estate investments "resulting in (the actor) suffering catastrophic losses."

Are Cage and others like him so special they aren’t required to sign a tax return? If not, then it should have occurred to Cage that if he hadn’t signed a return, one had not been filed. I realize for some it is easier to blame others for any and everything that may have gone wrong within your life; but how do you justify blaming or suing someone else for your neglect and foolishness – the police will tell you, that “ignorance is no excuse” for not obeying a law. Granted if someone within your trusted entourage of advisors steals from you, they should be sued and made to repay, but if its bad advice and you accept it, then that’s on you.

As much confidence as I have in my extremely knowledgeable financial advisor, J. Williams; if he were to suggest that I invest in the failed Circuit City stores, I’d be a fool to do so.

In August 2007, Lindsay Lohan was ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol education program, serve 24 hours in jail and perform 10 days of community service while on 36 months probation for drunk driving, reckless driving and driving under the influence of cocaine. You know the story.

However, because of Lohan’s lack of responsibility, Judge Revel added one year to Lohan's sentence so she could finish the program and suggested the actress complete it as soon as possible. The 23-year-old actress's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, told the judge that Lohan's absences stemmed from a miscommunication between her and program administrators. Again, although she’s rich and has the funds to hire an expensive attorney, stylish, etc. she still has to be held responsible and accountable for her own affairs and actions.

Finally, we come to Rajaratnam 52, considered the richest Sri Lankan in the world, was arrested for conspiring with Intel Capital treasury department managing director Rajiv Goel and Anil Kumar, a director of McKinsey & Co. The alleged offenses took place over three years

starting in January 2006. The scheme made more than $20 million in illegal profits over several years.

Rajaratnam was released on a $100 million personal recognizance bond secured by $20 million in cash and property. Clearly he’s not hurting for money, but for some bizarre reason he seems to think he’s above following the rules regarding “insider trading” because foolishness and greed will make you ignore the rules as well as the obvious.

All six were charged with securities fraud and conspiracy in two criminal complaints filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. Kumar was permitted to be released on a $5 million bond, Kurland on a $3 million bond, and Moffat and Chiesi on a $2 million bond. In California, Goel posted $300,000 cash for bail. The six were also charged in a separate civil complaint by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC said the accused traded on insider information from 10 companies.

Interesting to note, was the prosecutor’s warning shot for the rest of Wall Street, "Today, tomorrow, next week, the week after, privileged Wall Street insiders who are considering breaking the law will have to ask themselves one important question: Is law enforcement listening?" he said. But how effective it will be for the other privileged-law-breakers, is yet to be seen.

In conclusion, a child is a responsibility to its parents. As is being responsible is a requirement of an adult. Responsibility, as defined is an instance of being responsible (accountable): as such, there has to be some degree of accountability for one’s own affairs. Therefore, Cage, Lohan, and Rajaratnam the responsibility for this mess is ultimately yours!

Upon hearing that President Obama would be covering a substantial amount of literary ground while vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard; I decided to choose one of the five selections on the President’s reading list. I chose Richard Prices’ Lush Life, and I must say I am enjoying it more than I’d initially anticipated. Price’s masterful dialogue is captivating and the story riveting. This 455 pager is a must read.

And if you really want to become immersed, I suggest utilizing Audible.com or another audio-book source to listen while following along in the book. The narrator, Bobby Cannavale used by audible.com for Lush Life is shamelessly by far the most excellent audio match for the author’s text. His expertise almost makes you want to forgo the read, but don’t, because this book is quite worthy of the read. Regardless of which format you decide to choose, just be certain to explore this ‘tale of two lower east sides: one a high-priced bohemia, te other a home to hardship, its residents pushed to the edges of their time-honored turf.’

When Mad Men debuted on AMC in 2007 it quickly became one of the most talked about series on television. The show set in 1960ish New York, focuses on the men and women of Madison Avenue Advertising. The show even made history as the first series to win an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series; it also won Golden Globe’s Best Television Series – Drama.

One interesting element of the show is that there is a tremendous amount of cigarette smoking throughout each episode, depicting how rampant cigarette smoking was during that era; in the boardroom, the bedroom, and shall we gasp?, even pregnant women; which makes you wonder how/why everyone growing up in the 60s isn’t dead or suffering from cigarette-related cancer of some sorts. The series’ recreation is so on point you can almost feel the burning sensation in your eyes that takes you back to the days of smoked-filled rooms clouded with Camels and Kools.

The show has developed in to such a pop-cultural phenomenon with such a passionate fan base Mad Men continues to surpass everyone’s expectations with each new episode. And the record 4.5 Maddicts viewers tuning into the premiere Season 3, were delighted to learn that the show has been picked up just three episodes into the current season. The captivating world of Sterling Cooper will be back on AMC again next year." said Charlie Collier, president and general manager of AMC. And just in case you’re new to this television sensation -- Mad Men currently airs Sunday nights on AMC at 10pm | 9c.

Even if you’ve not yet become a Maddict fan you may still wish to tune in to catch a glimpse of priceless moments such as the one aired in last night’s episode. The scene begins innocently enough, with an older man walking out of the house carrying three large phone books, chatting with his two grandchildren who are on their way to school; but it’s the look on nine year old Sally’s Draper face as Grandpa Gene presses down on her foot to increase her driving speed from 5 mph to a whopping 25 - 30 mph is one of sheer delightful devilment; as she expertly maneuvers the family’s black Lincoln through the Suburban NY streets during another of her Grandpa’s many escapades; to drop she and her younger brother off at their Grammar school. And if by chance you miss it the first go round at 10pm, the show immediately re-airs in its entirely at 11pm. But the Mad Men Maddicts already know that; so select a time, tune in, and be a Maddict that's on point too.

MJ Regains His Throne Through A Sold-Out World Of Endless Headlines.

Since the sudden death of Michael Jackson on Thursday 25, June 2009, there has been an endless procession of headlines to note the global mourning and universal tribute to the infamous icon. And the blogs are endless.

Immediately following his death, there was little mention of young boys or any other Wacko-Jacko stabs at Michael; just endless playing of his music and talk of how timeless his works are. – Just how many fans were created with his death? Quite a lot I can image.

The same people in the media who were addressing him as a freak and tried to tear him apart, just to get a story are now praising him and proclaiming an undying respect for him. I and others like me question the sincerity of many individuals’ displayed sorrow.

However, Michael Jackson was a very popular topic on Tweeter. Immediately following the confirmation of his death, somewhere between 600,000 and 2 million people Tweeted about MJ – & of that number I’m certain that a large percentage have either told or laughed at a crude joke about Mike.

I was very much opposed to his behavior towards children. However, I’m not saying that we should condemn instead of mourn. But to those who weren’t actually grief-stricken by his death, there’s no need to pretend that you are.

Here are just a few of the latest headlines:

• TIME Mag Rushes Out Jackson Issue by TMZ Staff. You can get a look tmz.com at the cover of the Michael Jackson commemorative issue – being rushed to the newsstands Monday morning.

Mind you, the last time, TIME magazine published a special edition in between weekly issues was in the days following 9/11.

• Michael Jackson's philanthropically "We are the World" project still helps Africans.

• Filipino prisoners honor Jackson with 'Thriller' show.

• Michael Jackson, the greatest.

• The death of Peter Pan.

• House (of Reps.) holds moment of silence for Michael Jackson.

I suspect had “the moment of silence” been for Elvis there would be no uproar.

It seems hypocrisy plays a large role with regards to celebrities and their relationship with the Media and their fans. Frankly, if you or I (or any non-celebrity) had consumed as many drugs as: Marilyn, Elvis, Anne Nicole, & perhaps Michael Jackson – we’d be referred to as pill-popping low-life Junkies; but they are generally regarded as some sort of Messiah.

There’s nothing wrong with appreciating his music for what it is without glorifying him. And on that note;

I found a disturbing post on WordPress, letter to legend to which the writer not only alluded to but actually professed her undying and unhealthy love for Michael Jackson.

I felt incline to render the following response: “You would have to have had an on-coming personal relationship with this individual to even come close to feeling what you proclaim. And even then, it would be unhealthy. But to feel this way about any human-being, especially one you don't even know is not just sick, it’s eerie.”

Oddly, I’ve read a number of articles & blogs in which writers were grasping a straws not to give MJ his props, some going so far as to claim Michael Jackson was not as popular or as talented as a foreign 60’s boy band – known as the Beatles. Just take a look at the stats and you’ll know that to be false. That said, I am incline to post an abbreviated version a NY Times article, ‘After Jackson, Fame May Never Be the Same’ By DAVID SEGAL Published: June 27, 2009:

“…Fame on the level that Mr. Jackson achieved is all but impossible for pop culture heroes today, and quite likely it will never be possible again.

On the most basic level, this is a matter of business and math. Michael Jackson has sold an estimated 100 million copies worldwide of the 1982 album “Thriller,” which spent more than 31 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts.

It’s one of those high-water marks that nobody will touch, because record stores are vanishing, and along with them, megahit albums are vanishing, too.

…Likewise, Michael Jackson had MTV, which was the place for music videos, and as close to an Ed Sullivan platform as he needed. Of course, it’s been a long time since MTV played hour after hour of prime-time videos. Today, you watch music videos on YouTube, but because there are no programmers to curate what you see, every artist has to compete with thousands of others. And now that anyone with a computer has a miniature studio, and anyone with a Internet connection can post a song, there are more genres, subgenres and artists than ever.

That’s why even Michael Jackson would have a hard time becoming Michael Jackson these days.”

To the naysayers, just as in life (in death) no matter how hard you/they tried you/they will not be able to deny or take his talent away from him.

I trust based on my posts, that I am not deemed to be one of the hypocrites. Again, although I was opposed to (what I learned through the media) his behavior toward children - I was and still am a fan of his work; and I felt no need to tear him down in his death.

Paramedics were unable to revive the singer (who had no pulse upon their arrival), the site reports. He was then rushed to UCLA Medical Center while in a deep coma before passing away,

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

The seventh of nine children of Joseph and Katherine Jackson, Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Ind., on Aug. 29, 1958, and began his career performing with his brothers. His professional debut with the Jackson 5 came at age 11.

Jackson’s death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music’s premier all-around performer.

Michael changed how the world would look at music videos by providing mini-music-movies.

Captive In 3D Avatar World

A few short months ago, I was a willing captive in the 3-D avatar chat and instant messenger world. I don’t know when it happened but I had gotten hooked and each time I tried to escape, they just kept pulling me back in. Honestly, at some point I didn’t know how or even if I really wanted to escape. To make matters worst, I didn’t just reside in one avatar world, I resided in two.

On Zwinky.com I made over 50 friends nationwide in a relatively short period of time, and what is there to do in this world? Well, you can chat, chat, &chat about this and that. Quite a bit of the conversations on this site are relatively for the younger crowd, but if you select your buddies wisely you are able to chat with avatars in your age range.

One of the things that kept me coming back was the wardrobe and furnishings you’re able to obtain from the credits you earn. Although you are able to purchase Zbucks, as they’re called, I preferred to earn mine by visiting different areas on the site such as the park, which is always crowded or by playing games ‘mall dash’ was one of my favorites.

On the other hand, on IMVU.com the 3-D avatar world is quite a different playing field. Within the first couple of days I managed to acquire seven buddies from all around the world, including Trinidad and Brazil. Compared to Zwinky, the avatars in IMVU world are much more animated, and unlike Zwinky the IMVU avatars are able to sit, swim, jump, kick, dance, hug, etc. and are able to interact with other avatars in varies 3-D scenes and realistic looking rooms while they chat. And of course there are rooms for adults only (must verify you’re 21 or over), but I found that some of the interactions in certain areas were a bit brazen to say the least; therefore I opted not to visit those areas.

IMVU 3-D avatar world of chat can also become a very addictive dress up game with so many outfits to choose from, not to mention you have the opportunity to showcase your own creative designs. You can play music during your chats from tracks you select to include in your mix. In your inventory you have hair, make-up, eyes, eyebrows, clothes, pets, actions, and more to choose from. Although my avatar came equipped with a fully furnished modern penthouse, I choose to purchase (using credits) a huge villa, once I furnished it, I invited guests over to show it off, and they loved my newly acquired showplace.

If you’re ever in need of something to do and somewhere (virtually) to go, check out IMVU.com or any one of the many available virtual-world websites. You may find yourself captive in/at a TV studio, cruise club, bowling, police department, airline, etc. There are so many rooms to explore and approximately 50,000 people online at any given time to hang out and have fun with. Be forewarned, the avatar world can become addictive.

Just prior to this post I learned of another virtual world called second life where there’s a community called ‘story mountain center’ it’s a place for Writers. I’ll be certain to check this website out, after all, it may turn out to be a great Writer’s tool. (Wink, wink)

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY – TO THE UNCELEBRATED PARENT

Father’s Day is a time to observe and have a good time with the father in your life. And to remember those fathers that are no longer with us. Father’s Day has never gotten the fan-fare that Mother’s Day has been afforded, nor have some fathers been shown the appreciation they may rightly deserve; perhaps that’s partly due to the misunderstanding of the Father and his role.

Fathers take on the role of protector and work hard to provide for their children and families. Some fathers have to work harder and longer than they’d like, which often results in less time spent with their children. This is difficult to explain to children – just another reason not to celebrate Dad.

Fathers are usually the flexible parent, at least in my household; when Mom said “this is the way it is.” That’s the way it was – no negotiation. Fathers are also likely to love with impulsiveness and surprises. They love having fun with their children and are generally the parent that pushes the children physically in an effort to toughen them up – while mothers are all for having spirited children, the father wants his children to be brave, aggressive, and fearless.

Then there is the optimistic nurturing side of a father, trying to be in tune with his children. Hoping his children will find out who they really are and become independent – if for no other reason than to stay out of his pocket; but seriously, fathers help serve to wing the child from the nest to become self-sufficient productive members of society.

Although my father didn’t die until I was grown with children and grandchildren of my own - I still truly miss my Dad. So for as long as you have breathe in your body and are able to do so, make an effort to celebrate, appreciate, and be glad to have that father figure in your life.
